2015 The Year In Review

O, I was looking back today at the events that shaped the year 2015.  I have to say, for myself, it was not a bad year, but for the world and the US, it was really not a great year.  There were a lot more people killed, a lot more crazy on the streets and a lot more people that feel that it's ok to take someone's life because they don't agree with you.  Of course there have been some milestones also.  So let's take a look at 2015: ( this is a long post so bare with me!)

January - Charlie Hedbo in Paris, a couple of terrorist bust into this publisher's office kill a bunch of people, get away then the next day take some people hostage in a grocery store.

March - Some wacky Pilot in Germany decided to kill himself and takes down the airplane he is charged to fly along with 150 passengers.

April - Dzhokhar Tsarnaev - the younger of the two brothers that dropped the backpack bombs on the Boston Marathon, was found guilty and sentenced to death.  And that's not the only person who got the death penalty, it's unfortunate that Walter Scott was killed in NC as he ran from the police and it was all caught on a cell phone.  Then if that wasn't bad enough, a week later in Baltimore, Freddy Gray, Doa after being pick up in a paddy wagon for some petty crime.

May - an Amtrak Passenger Train derails outside of Philly.  The conductor was not sure what actually happened, but a bunch of people died!  I hear they did install those speed controls on the rails recently though.

In June we had Escape from NY, when two inmates with the help of a prison employee escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, NY.  Richard Matt and David Sweat (great name) with the help of an infatuated Joyce Mitchell.  I believe they spent about 20 days on the run.  Also in June we had the mass shooting of 9 at a bible study group at a church in Charleston, SC. These people died only because they were black and the jerk that shot them fancied himself a white supremacist.

On a lighter note on June 26th, 2015 the Supreme Court of the USA upheld the right for gay people to marry throughout the United States.

August - We were privy to an on Air Shooting of two news reporters in Roanoke Va.  A former co-worker with mental issues was the culprit.

Also throughout the entire summer and still to this day we are seeing the plight of the Syrian people seeking refuge in whatever country will take them as they flee from their war torn country.  Who can forget that picture of the 3 year old dead child that drowned in the police officer's arms?

On another lighter note, in September we say Pope Francis coming to America, DC, NYC and Philly hosted.

Then on November 13th, more Terror in Paris, when a series of coordinated attacks killed about 130 people then France unleashed a huge can of whoop ass in the countries that they hide!  pack of ISIL (or should I say Assholes?)

But of course that would not be the end, on December 2nd, 2015 San Bernardino, Ca, 2 rouge Taliban sympathisers shot up a holiday luncheon at the Public Health Department, when the male of the two used to work.  14 died that day and 22 were injured.

This has not been a good year for the world at large.  As a matter of fact I found a statistic that says there have been 57 mass shootings this year along where 3 or more people were killed.  Just to name a few that I haven't already, Roseburg, Or college campus shooting, Chattanooga, TN, military recruitment center, Planned Parenthood, Co, because of that photo shopped video of the "baby parts".

The list goes on...but my point is, just be kind to each other. People don't always have to agree to get along, just remember we are all just trying to get along with our own lives.

And with that, I wish you all a VERY HAPPY, HEALTHY, AND SAFE NEW YEAR!

Random Acts of Kindness

I think that it's important to remember to be kind to people and all living things, not only this time of the year but all year 'round.  I'm not saying that you should give all of your money to charities or give up all of your worldly possessions but to just remember that not everyone has it as good as you do right now.  And simple acts of kindness do go a long way in this cold and uncaring world sometimes.

My mother used to tell me, "I felt sorry for myself because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet."  I would laugh about the absurdity of such a statement until I got older, then I realized what it really means.  Its not that I consider myself a spiritual or religious person because anyone that knows me knows I believe that's a suckers bet, but I do believe that what comes around does go around and karma does have its way of finding you no matter where you hide.

I give to a number of charities every year.  Mostly animal related not only
because I sometimes care more about animals than I do people but because I believe that if we can not show compassion and empathy for the lowest of creatures how can we do so for our fellow human beings?

I try not to be in such a rush all of the time,  and remember that there are others on this planet just trying to get along.  Sometimes its the simplist of things like saying "thank you" when someone holds the door for you at the local coffee shop or even just a smile and direct eye contact that can make another person's day.  I have always believed that Kindness is contagious and its something that everyone should catch.

Getting Through the Holidays

As if the Holidays are not hard enough to get through with all of the commercializing and stress of buying presents and going to parties and dealing with relatives, we also have to make sure we do not gain 1000lbs between thanksgiving and the new year.

From November 25th until January 2nd, anyone that has ever tried to lose weight or at the very least maintain weight is doomed. Cookies, cakes, dinners, alcohol all tempt us at every turn.  But I feel it doesn't have to be like that.  Of course it's easier when you can exactly eat a lot but you can still gain weight even after being sleeved.

Being Sleeved and having lost a large amount of weight doesn't make me immune from gaining holiday weight.  There are ways that you can put on the pounds and still think you are being good when in reality, you are eating things you know you should not.

I think the single most important thing to remember is, get in your exercise.  Even if you do eat a couple of cookies, a piece of cheesecake or something you know you should not have if you burn off those calories at the very least you can maintain your weight.

Also, being sleeved, I think it's important to remember that you should always eat your protein first.  Sure there are plenty of carbs out there calling your name during these trying times but truth is, protein won't kill you or your weight as quick as carbs will!  And lets face it, I'm over a year out and, I can really only eat like 3/4 of a cup of food at a time, so you have to make it count.  However if you eat something every hour, the calories are going to add up and you will gain weight.

I love to cook especially for the holidays.  When I was a kid my mom would have cookie night and we would invite friends over and we would all make cookies and listen to the radio and just have a wonderful time.  These are the times that I remember when it comes to the Holidays and that is why I still dedicate a day to making cookies just about every year.  I give most of them away, but that doesn't mean that the Holidays need to revolve around food.

Refugee, rescue me

I have been thinking about all the hubbub lately about the United States taking in 10,000 Syrian refugees.  The majority of them would be women and children.
There are many people that believe this would be opening the front door to invite terrorists into our country.   I find it hard to understand why these people have so much hate towards citizens of a country that have done nothing to them.

Granted, I did see on the news this morning that about 70 people have been arrested in the United States over the last year in connection to terrorists plots and sympathisers, who are mostly, by the way, US citizens or permanent residents.  (information taken from the article below)

We, as citizens of this great county, do not need any help with terrorism.  We grow our own, right here in the good ole US of A.  Recent case in point, Robert Dear, who just shot up an abortion clinic and strip mall out in Colorado Springs (isn't that where Det McKenna is from??)  Because of that stupid altered videotape that the Republican'ts (that's not a typo!)  run as their forum to "end abortions" with some morons (who are not the status quo) selling baby parts. But I digress...

Both sides of my family came from over the pond to the United States around world war II.  Both sides (or at least my mother's side, I know for sure) came in through Ellis Island.  Some were quarantined, vaccinated, indoctrinated, so why can't we do this for these Syrian refugees?  I don't think that we should just let them in without some kind of checking but I certainly don't think that we should turn them away.

Our country was built on the backs of immigrants.  The Statue of Liberty shines the light to our coast line with these words:

Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

Who are we to turn our backs on people in need???

Being Thankful for Thanksgiving

I would like to take a moment to Thank everyone and anyone that reads this silly blog that I started.  I suppose the reason why I started it was to have a voice that would be listened to by someone, anyone.  Sometimes I do actually produce a jewel.  My, like many others lives, is filled with trials and tribulations, triumphs and failures, kindness and sometimes selfishness and I believe that it is possible to affect people by the written word, and that is what I hope to accomplish be it good or bad.

As a human on this planet I hope to one day pass on a legacy, not of money or property but of understanding, compassion, empathy, and kindness.  While I know some of my posts go off the deep end, people and hypocrisy drive me crazy!  I do not want it to be said of me when I shuffle off this mortal coil that was was anything less than caring, compassionate and somewhat insightful.

I feel that you get what you give for the most part, and if you are decent to the people around you it will come back to you in some way or form.  You just need to be open enough to see the way it comes back to you.  I see so many closed minds, opinions and attitudes these days, this world we live in is not black and/or white but mostly made up of gray.

So In ending I would like to say Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.  As we sit at our tables of prosperity and wealth give thanks for what you have now and remember not everyone on this planet has it as good as we do here in the United States of America.

Peace out...

My Boys - Part 4 - Fredrick

This here is my boy Fredrick, named after the one and only Fred Astaire!  Freddy came to us in the winter of 2010.  It was a brutal winter, I lived in Matawan, NJ in an half of a house on this dead end road.  There was a colony of cats that lived near this factory at the end of the road, where the workers there would feed the cats and kittens in return for them keeping the property rodent free.

A few times that winter we got well over 2 foot of snow.  I didn't leave my house for days but you would look outside and you would see Fred hanging out in the street, all scruffy and skinny looking.  We honestly thought that he was someone's cat because he was so friendly, would walk right up to you and let you pet him.  I found out one day that he was just a stray, and had no real place to live.  So we decided to take Fred in and give him a home.

Well Fred went from being an average sized cat of about 5 to 8 lbs to a monster of a kitty weighing in at 18.5 lbs.  He has a heck of an appetite!  The thing with Fred is that because he was almost feral and lived off the land for at least a year, he would catch and eat rodents and bugs.  But because of this, when we took him in and started to give him dry cat food, he ended up with his little kidneys packed with crystals and was hospitalized for a few days to flush him out.

Its seems that a semi feral cat gets their liquid intake from the rodents and bugs that they eat and that is enough to sustain them.  However when you take one of those cats into your home and give him dry food, he doesn't drink enough water to flush himself out and so, gets the crystals.  So now, Fred gets extra water in his canned food and a dish of milk/water every morning.  (milk is NOT harmful to cats when you dilute it).  He also eats about 2 6oz cans of food a day.
We do love our Fat Freddy though, he was very shy at first but he came around in short order.  As a matter of fact, he and Reilly are very good friends.  Fred also things he is a dog.  He goes out with the dogs, comes in with the dogs.  He even poops in the yard with the dogs!  And he is bigger than my smallest dog Fu!

Anyway you take him, you have to love Fat Fred, he is a treasure in black and white fur!

Viva La France

I didn't find out what was going on in Paris until I got home from work on Friday.   I heard someone in my hallway at work say that something got bombed in Paris but these days its not really unusual to hear of a bombing somewhere, so I didn't really give it a second thought.

When I saw the news Friday night I was taken back to another time, it seems like so long ago now, but in my mind it was like yesterday, September 11, 2001.
While I realize that there were no planes crashing into buildings or into the ground, and there were not 1000's of people dying, it was no less than that overwhelming forlorn feeling that I had in the days and weeks after 9/11. Unless you were on the East Coast, I do not believe that you really could understand what it felt like after those attacks.

Paris, the city of light, art, love.  Another country of free citizens that live in a relatively decent world.  Of course countries like ours all have our problems but we do what we can and we get by, for better or like friday, worse.

For these animals (ISIS) to target the citizens of a country, they are no more than cowards hiding behind the disguise of a religion.   They are mad at us and people like us, not for any true religious reasons but because they have all the oil and they still live in shit.  Why do they live in shit, because they are barbaric animals that have not learned to live in this new world where you have to actually WORK for what you have! This is all about their twisted half baked retarded interpretation of their Muslim religion.  If you ask me, they are nothing more than homicidal maniacs with a supposed mission. These people are nuts, and anyone that sympathises with them, are just as guilty as the ones doing all of the killing.    I'm not going to go on a tirade on how horrible and disgusting these assholes (no pun intended) are, but it sure makes me believe even more that religion or the pursuit of enlightenment or religious grandeur, will be the downfall of the world that we know.

So in ending I just want to say my heart goes out to the people of France, the city of Paris and all of those people that were affected by this act of terror.   I know it's not easy now but know this, do NOT give up your way of life for anything, if you do they will have won.

Viva La France!

My Boys - Part 3 - Smokey

This is my boy Smokey.  Smokey is about 8 or 9 years old now.  We are not really sure how old he is really.  We got him from this crazy woman that used to live with us.  (don't ask, it wasn't a good time in my life!)

Smokey is a polydactyl, meaning he has 6 toes on each back foot and and 7 on each front foot. The real interesting thing about Smokey is that all of his extra digits all work, they flex, they all have claws in them.  Usually polydactyl cats extra toes are just for decoration, but not smokey, he's the real deal.

The moment I saw this cat I knew I had to have him.  He is a Russian blue and he is very friendly. and he loves to talk!  He can also balance walk any fence and he's a skilled hunter having caught many mice, birds and moles.  Needless
to say, I have never had a rodent problem with smokey around.

Although I did not get Smokey from a shelter, I like to think that I did rescue him.  The person that had him before us did not care very well for any of her 4 cats or dog.  All of which have died by now.

Smokey is actually my first boy as I have had him longer than any of my other animals.  He is very pretty and extremely photogenic and I swear sometimes he poses for the camera!  He is without a doubt a lap cat as he is always wanting to be on my lap!  He also loves to be held, so I usually sling him over my shoulder like a baby.

People are So Dumb - Starbucks war on XMas

I read and listen to a lot of news.  I think I am going to start a regular blog post called "People are so Dumb"  Mostly because, well people really are dumb and need to find something constructive to do with their lives other than bitch about shit that NO ONE GIVES A CRAP ABOUT!

The latest and seriously stupid gripe I can't believe that they actually wasted 5 minutes of news time for this morning is whether or not Starbucks has an all out war on Xmas because, Get this, they didn't decorate their coffee cups this year...

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?  First of all, their coffee taste like warm shit strained piss and the only way to make it palatable is to add all of the crap, sugar and whatever else they have on the table to it.  Second, you have to have a degree in ebonics to be able to order it.  Third, there are too many stupid people out there that will pay $5.00 for a cup of CRAPPY Coffee because it's the "cool place to be".

So the story is that some people believe that Starbucks has its panties in a knot and are not showing their love for Xmas this year because of the plain red cups with their normal logo.  These freaking morons, need to be wearing tinfoil hats so that we can distinguish who among us is an idiot.

I just do not understand why or how anyone in the world would come up with no xmas design on a cup means that a company is against a specific holiday?  Are people really that self absorbed and egotistical that they would not think, Hey, maybe jewish people don't like xmas shit on their cups, or maybe the bone shakers have a problem with xmas decorations on their cups?

Why is it that the Christians/Catholics are always so one sided?  Don't we live in a world with many religions/societies/people?  Why must we cater to one or the other and then be called bias if we do?  Is this what the TRUE meaning of Xmas is all about??

As far as I'm concerned no matter what cup you put that nasty burnt shit tasting brew in, it's always going to taste like steamed shit!  As for an all out war on Xmas, really people?  The stupid cup is STILL red and the stupid LOGO is still GREEN (which btw is a PAGAN Goddess) there is your STUPID Xmas decoration!

And on a side note...WAWA makes the BEST coffee ever, only second to my Hubby who really is the Sensei of Coffee in the great northeast...

Finally! over the HUMP!!!

Well it took more than a month but damn it, I busted through that plateau that I was on.  I finally got out of the 230's into the 220's, 229 to be exact.

I am about about 1 year, 2 months out of my surgiversary and am down now a total of 125 lbs.  Now that's A LOT of weight!  After about a year, the extreme weight loss by the week (between 3 and 5 lbs a week) stopped and I only hit my very first plateau at 13 months out so that is very good.

However, I'm still 229 lbs, which is not where I want to be.  Ideally I would like to be in the 160 to 190 range.  Lets face it, fat girls are not going to be 125lbs ever!  If you are, you are young, not an old fart like me.

I know that I should exercise more.  I do get out at least 3 times a week and walk from 1.5 to 3 miles.  I really should find the time to get on my exercise bike once in a while but there are only 24hrs in a day and 12 of them I'm at work (that's where I go walking) and 6 to 8 of them (more like 6 because the animals don't let me sleep much) I'm sleeping so I'm left with 4 to 6 hours to clean my house, make dinner, play with the animals, listen to my hubby...

Maybe I can multitask, listen to the hubby while I'm on the exercise bike? Or make the animals follow me around when I'm cleaning? They already do when I am cooking...

So how do you get exercise in?  I need some suggestions...

My Boys - Part 2 - The FU

This here is FU.  We have had FU for a little over a year now.  FU comes from Kentucky and Tom's brother.  Because of circumstances, Tom's brother could not care or keep FU any longer.  So one weekend last October 2014, we did a marathon run to Kentucky and picked him up and brought him home.

Really he is the sweetest little guy you ever want to meet.  He is part pomeranian and we have no clue what else.  Although he is only 18lbs wet, he seems to think he is as big as a wolf!  He and Reilly are inseparable bestest buddies ever.

FU had a rough start in life being that he was tossed from a moving vehicle at about 10 weeks old.  He had multiple contusions, gashes, possibly a fracture in his left hip and snout.  However Tom's brother happened to be outside not long after it happened and found the little guy mostly unable to walk.  He nursed FU back to health over the next few months.

To this day FU sometimes walks with a limp, usually when its cold or rainy and he has a big scar on his side under his fur and a bump on his nose.  But we don't care, we love him anyway!

FU loves to play with his squeaky toys, usually anything that Reilly finds an interest in, FU will want it. He has a larger than live attitude and lets you know it!  He is a barker and whiner, and there are a few people/dogs that he just DOES NOT LIKE.  However he is a master birder and loves to chase the squirrels out of the yard.

This is our FU
2 year old Pomeranian mix, best bud to Reilly....

Election Day

Today is November 3rd, 2015 and it is an Election Day.  It's not a Presidential Election but it is none the less an important election day.  All election days should be considered important but the off year election days will actually affect you more than a presidential/senate/house election ever will.  So before you go home from work today, stop by your voting place and cast your vote, it IS the American thing to do!

This year in my little now home town of Morrisville, PA, it has been a contemptuous year of politics.  It has really amazed me that small town politics can be so personal, and nasty and full of HUGE egos.  I have to believe that no one starts out that way but usually somewhere along the way, politics ends up corrupting even the most genuine and good intending people.

So today is the day we have all been waiting for, will the old regime be overthrown by the new progressive pack? Or will we have 4 more years of what we have had?

You have to understand the chess game that is local politics.  In Morrisville, it is and has been predominantly Democratic forever (industrial town, east coast, just outside of Philly...Hello).  It's a small, and I mean small like in only 2 miles small, town adjacent from Trenton, NJ, which as most people know was a big industry town many years ago.  "What Trenton Makes, the World Takes" was the motto.   Currently the ratio of Democrats to Republicans is almost split even being 51% Democrats and 49% Republicans.  Which makes for some Interesting Facebook time I can tell you that.

There was a time when the Republicans headed the helm and I will say from what I have read and can find, kept taxes artificially low, did not spend money on the things that they should and ruled the roost as if they owned their own private kingdom...BUT

The Democrats are no shining angels in this disaster movie.  For years now they have been entrenched in nepotism to the point where just about everyone that works in the town is related to or friends with some member of the counsel or boro manager (which is another post in and of itself).  And I'm not saying that these people are bad people but is that really the right way to run a town?  Wouldn't it be more prudent to hire the most qualified person for a job? There is also the little problem about them allowing our town go basically without a police force for about 14 months before they decided to do something about it.  A report that cost the tax payers $100,000's of dollars that just "poof" disappeared.

My point is that no one is perfect, but I believe that things will get better if we collectively work together.  Sometimes it's wiser to bite your tongue then to have an opinion on everything in order to make things work for all involved.  We need leaders in our community that will listen to the good and the bad and include the community and work for the betterment of everyone.

So before I leave work and go cast MY vote, I just want to say Good Luck to everyone Running in Morrisville and lets work together to move forward!

Yes I really am a Minister

In May of 2014 I found this website and was quite intrigued.  I have always thought of myself, spiritual, not religious, when in fact it turns out, I can't really buy any of the God theories.  I find it hard to wrap my head around the belief that this old guy sits up in the sky and dictates everything we do down here on earth as if he's some great puppet master.

Religious people often confuse me.  Most of them claim they live by the word of Jesus Christ when in fact, they pretty much do and say the exact opposite of what he taught his followers.  Love thy neighbor, isn't that what they say, yet more of them vehemently believe in the death penalty and viciously hate gay people.  How is that loving thy neighbor?

I digress, so back in May of 2014 I come across this site Universal Life Church and found out that you can really become an ordained minister.  I thought it a joke at first but then my I figured what the heck?  Even though I do consider myself an Atheist, I still have a moral code and beliefs that people should treat each other with at least a little empathy, compassion and some decency.

It wasn't long after I let people know that I got hired (well it was a favor to a friend) to perform my first wedding ceremony!  It was actually really nice.

I'm thinking of doing doggy and kitty blessings next and I now fully believe that you do not have to believe in a God to be a person that administers compassion and kindness...

Now I just need a name for my Church...

Any suggestions?

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays.  What's not to like? Dressing up in costumes, going to strangers houses, knocking on doors, getting candy...

Candy, my downfall, especially Chocolate.  So much so that I ate a lot of it.  I guess I actually ate a lot of everything for most of my life.  But not anymore!

But I digress...

Halloween is the time of the year when the veil between the two worlds, that of the living and the dead is so thin that the deceased walk among the living in their spirit form.  That is, if you were inclined to believe that sort of thing.

Ghosts, spirits, spectral entities, have spooked people for all of history.  Many people believe in the spirit world and have claimed to have seen ghosts.  I have played with Ouija boards, summoned spirits, held seances, walked in graveyards at night and the like for most of my life and for as long as I have lived, I have never really seen a ghost.

I would love to really believe in ghosts, why not, it would mean that maybe when this life ends, there is something else waiting for us.  Or maybe it's like purgatory, where only bad or confused people go?  Do you believe in ghosts?  Have you ever had an experience  that you thought was supernatural?  Tell me about it in the comments and I you may just get a trick, or a treat...

Have a Happy and Safe Halloween!

Autumn in the Great Northeast!

Autumn in the great northeast is usually a site to behold.  I used to love hiking by Round Valley Reservoir when I was a teen ager and in to my 20 and beyond, but as I got older and started gaining uber weight my time for hiking or even walking came to a screeching halt.  Never mind walking, I could barely get off the couch!

Over the last 14 months I have lost a total of 130 lbs after I went in for Bariatric Gastric Sleeve surgery on Sept 2nd, 2014 and that HAS made all the difference. Now I walk whenever I can get out
and since I work near a lake with trails around it, I try to walk those trails as much as I can.  I believe its about 3 miles total around the lake and back.  It really is a beautiful walk any time of the year.

For Halloween I tried to run a short story contest but because of the lack of participation that kind of fell through, Thanks all of my followers!  What do I have to do to make you comment???  I digress...

On my walk today with my good friend Pat (who btw held my hand the first time I went to the surgeon's office way back in April 2014) we decided to hit the local cemetery on the other side of Lake Etra.

It was a very interesting and very old family cemetery.  The name of the Family was/is Hutchinson.  I found this pdf file on  the internet when I did a search for this family.  You can read more about them at this link:

HIGHTSTOWN HISTORICAL SOCIETY NEWS

If you would like to see more pictures of the cemetery, you can find that link here:

Hutchinson Family Cemetery

If you decide to take a walk there, just watch out for these man eaters!

My Boys - Part 1 - Reilly

Reilly

This is my boy Reilly.  He just turned 2 on September 30th.  I got him as a puppy from a charity that saves forgotten and abused animals in Puerto Rico, these dogs are called Satos. Right now there are about 100,000 of them covering the island and there are many efforts to try to save these dogs from fates worse than death, like a place they call, Dead Dog Beach. Another component of this Charity called  The Sato Project is education.  One of the biggest problems they have is that people do not spay or neuter their animals and they end up with puppies all over the place.  So they take them to
Dead Dog Beach where they become shooting targets for mean people or just starve to death or some of the older ones are just left in crates to die in the tropical heat.  Anyway, I saw this puppy and knew I couldn't leave without him!

He is pretty smart and really fast.  when he gets it in him, he gets real low to the ground and runs around the house balls out, its a sight to see.  Right now, since he is full grown he weighs about 45lbs.  Which is average for a Sato.  Not to big and not to small that's what I always say. He is loyal and loving beyond comprehension.  He also LOVES his squeaky ball and loves to play catch.  I think that he definitely has some lab, boxer and maybe even jack Russell terrier in him.  He is extremely agile and a very fast learner.  I got him a puzzle box and ball for Xmas last year (doesn't everyone get their animals presents for Xmas?) and I believe I showed him 1 time how to use them and he does it without hesitation now.

He also has a condition called "Idiopathic head tremor", which actually sounds a lot worse than it is.  It is when the animal's head shakes up and down or side to side.  Usually it lasts a few minutes and then stops as quickly as it begins.  It is more common in the Bully breeds of dogs, bulldog, pittys, labs and so on and it's also more predominant in mixed breed dogs.  There is really nothing that can be done about it, it does not effect them neurologically, its just sad to watch because you know it bothers them not being able to control it.  Think of it like when your leg gets the jimmies.  Its about the same thing.

So in ending, Reilly now lives the life of Reilly, he is loved and cared for and in return he gives us his unconditional loyalty and devotion.  I would say to anyone that reads this blog, to head on over to The Sato Project and make a donation or even inquire on how you too can own your very own Sato!

Conscientious Objection

Last week, we here in the great Northeast, Philly to be exact, had the historical opportunity to be a host city for the Vicar of God himself (if you are inclined to believe there actually is a God) Pope Francis.  While I will freely admit that I am an Atheist, I will say it was still kind of exciting.  Anyway, while he was here he met with the Evil Villain, Kim Davis.  Im sure you all recall who she is, the white trash woman that relies on her belief in God in order to deny someone else their rights to marry?

Well as much as I hate to admit it, Pope Francis stated that it is in her right to Conscientiously Object to doing something that is against her moral code.  I know I'm going to get a lot of Boos and Hisses here but he was absolutely right, she does have that not only religious right, but also that human right.

BUT...
In saying that and allowing her to take that path, also means that she should NOT be the county clerk then if she can not or will not perform her job as such. Regardless of her beliefs.  If your belief system interferes with another person's Rights as an American citizen, then you can not and should not be employed in such a capacity.

According to wikipedia...

"A conscientious objector (CO) is an "individual who has claimed the right to refuse to perform military service" on the grounds of freedom of thought, conscience, and/or religion."

So are we to believe now that county clerks are in the forefront of some sort of military action?  And if that is so, can we hold them accountable as we would any combatant of war?  And who declared this war on Gay americans and why?

I have always been in the mind that you should do unto others as you would have them do unto you.  Sometimes it's hard for me to understand the reasoning behind a movement that claims they love all and yet act like they hate everyone not like them.  Isn't it true that Jesus would hang out with the dregs of society? The tax collectors, whores, thieves and made these people into his following?

So what gives Kim Davis or anyone else for that matter, a free pass to pass judgement on another person solely because they want to live a life of love with another person who is of the same sex?  It's not ok that just because you call it Conscientious objection gives you some kind of higher ground.

In the end, everyone loses, because I think, if Jesus came back tomorrow (even though they have been waiting over 2000 years) I think he would be appalled by the behavior and misunderstandings of his teachings that so many christians believe is the high moral ground these days.

Why Support Groups are Annoying

I know that is has been a while since my last post, and I am sorry about that.  I really need to get into some sort of schedule to keep the viewership up there a little more.

Anyway, since my last post, my current weight lose is 125lbs.  It's been about 13 months and much has changed for me, including the first ever time that I had to return a pair of pants because they were TOO BIG!  Yes, that shocked me too. But seriously, when you are losing weight you are never really sure what size you are in.  The sad part though is that I have seemed to hit a major plateau lately.

This is actually my first major plateau since I started but it is none the less frustrating.  I so want to be under that 200lb mark and I am about 31lbs away. So I figured maybe I needed some pointers or advice, so I joined an online, facebook support group...BIG mistake!

While most people are very like me, there are a certain percentage that are...lets just say...bat shit crazy!  Then there are the ones that are just...lets just say dumb, ignorant and probably really should not have gotten this severe of an operation without further psychiatric evaluation.

While it is somewhat entertaining, it also really becomes annoying when you have people that have had this life changing operation and are sad and depressed because they cant drink soda any longer or cant eat a whole pizza, cake or tray of lasagna!  What?? Really??  You idiot, you got to BE 500lbs BECAUSE you ate a whole pizza, cake, tray of lasagna in a sitting for YEARS!  I know, I have been there!  And there are still a lot of things that I used to eat that I just cant eat anymore but you know what? I DON'T CARE, I have LOST 125LBS!!!

Oh and others that annoy me, every time I eat, I throw up!  Really?  maybe that's because YOU ARE EATING TOO MUCH you moron!  Aren't you listening to your surgeon?  Usually around 3 weeks after the operation you are put on a soft food stage, yogurt, scrambled eggs, stuff like that.  I just LOVE the people that consider soft food, McDonalds parfaits or Wendy's soft serves.  Really?  You couldn't find something else that would be better and more nutritious for you?

My all time favorites are the bat shit crazy ones.  There was a thread on this support group, I kid you not, that was made by a woman that claimed she was turned down for the surgery because she had...Multiple personalities...What? what??  What???  And it gets better, there were a number of OTHERS on that same thread that said they also had multiple personalities!  ARE you freaking kidding me!  I was just awestruck but the sheer stupidity and wackiness of that entire thread...Sometimes I think that people just make this shit up specifically for the shock value.

So I have learned that these online support groups are more or less a total waste of time, they are rife with wackos and very seldomly actually give you any real information you can use.

Still Going....

As of today, I am 18 days away from my Anni-surgery date and I am currently 113 lbs down.  I never in my wildest dreams thought that I would lose this much weight.

I am thankful every day that I did this for myself.  If anyone were to ask me if they should do it, I would tell them, Oh heck yea!  But don't expect it to be easy. But do expect it to be worth every ounce that you will lose!

I would still like to lose another 50 lbs at least and I know it will happen.  My whole life has changed now and I can do things I haven't been able to do in years. I have almost no clothes left LOL but hey, they will come in time, and will come smaller and smaller...

Good things are happening when you do right for yourself!

Peace Out!

The Left Lane Driver Debate

I work in NJ and live in PA so I commute every day.  I take major highways, rt 195 and rt 130.  Route 195 is a big highway, a large part of it being 2 or more lanes each way.  Route 130, 2 lanes each way as far as I have to travel.  I always try to keep up with traffic, unless of course, the traffic is doing 100 mph.   But I will do the speed limit and keep to the left for the most part.

I have noticed over the last year or so that although I keep pace with traffic and do not drive below the speed limit, I usually use the left lane to pass.  Drivers have been using the left lane as what I refer to it as "the Audubon Lane".  Whereas, no matter how fast you are going or if you are passing someone or not, they feel that only they have the right to drive in this lane and the saying "left lane dick" gives them the ability to go as fast as they want, act as reckless as they want and as obnoxious as they can get, just because everyone else around them should not be allowed to drive in that lane unless you are doing 100 mph!  When I was a kid and got my license the rule was the left lane was for "through" traffic, meaning if you were not going to be turning off of the road anytime soon, then you travelled, the speed limit I might add, in the left lane.

Don't even get stuck in the left lane while trying to pass someone and then come into traffic and not be able to safely get back into the right lane...some people will lose their ever loving minds!  YOU are in my way and not driving like a maniac in the left lane!!!

So when did this all change?? Who is it that came up with the nickname "left lane dick" anyway?  Were they part of who actually wrote the laws for passing on the left?  Why is it that I can only drive in the right lane yet people going way too fast and driving recklessly are allowed to drive in the left lane?  Are they the true Left Lane Dicks?

I checked out the laws in NJ and PA as research for this post.  The actual law in both states is that you should keep right unless you are passing.  Period...end of statement.  There is absolutely no mention of anyone being able to drive as fast as they can in the left lane or continuously driving in that lane at a high rate of speed is legal.  All instances that I have found state that you must drive the speed limit and you can only pass in the left lane then get back into the right lane, and do the speed limit...

So tell me...who really is the left lane dick???

A Town Divided

I know its been awhile since I last posted and I am a bad bad person for ignoring my blog when so many delectable things have been going on in the world!

However I would like to talk today about Municipal Politics.  Not many people realize how the politics in your town, hamlet, city or place of residence affects you more on a day to day basis then your state and/or federal government. And now with the advent of social media, things can really be out in the open, gaping wide open so that everyone can see.  Of course there will always be those that choose to live with their heads in the sand and not be involved, thinking they will never have a bearing on the outcome of an election but that could not be farther from the truth.  At the municipal level, every single vote really does count.

Perhaps my views are naive in that I believe that people that are elected to represent a certain constituency should indeed represent them first and put aside personal feelings and agendas for the greater good of their citizenry.    I also feel that in being a politician they are held to a higher standard than that of the regular public citizen, however I do not think that they should dismiss the ideas and concerns of their constituents.  I feel that if you do not want to be held to a higher standard and act accordingly, then you are not an effective representative of your constituents.  I also believe that they should have a tough skin and be able to hold their tongue and defuse situations that may arise, not cause situations.

Small town politics can be even more hostile than what you would see in your state or federal arena.  Nepotism runs wild through small town politics, which is one of the reasons your property taxes increase.  But it is when a town becomes divided is when we begin to see its downward spiral into a place no one wants to be.  Businesses begin to fail and not even come to town, schools begin to break down, kids begin to fail, infrastructures begin to crumble, houses become rentals instead of owners living in them, crime goes up, morale goes down.

Community is important in a small town.  Everyone wants to be part of a community.  It is unfortunate though that opinions get in the way of being a well rounded community.  If people could just check their opinions at the door and work together for the betterment of the community, this world would be a much better place.  Picking "sides" is not an option, in small town politics, and community there is no left or right, no one cares if you are pro-choice or pro-gun or pro-anything else, it's all about what is good for the whole community.

Its easy to sit behind a keyboard and point fingers and blame others for your own shortcomings, but in the end, ask yourself, what have I done for the community lately?  What I have done to make things better here?  Its time to take a good long look in the mirror and know that the person that you say you hate and causes problems and is all so bad for the community...is YOU!

I wish that I had the answers to what could bring a town divided together.  As much as I do try in my own ways, there is always flack to be had.  As I have said in the past, and will say again, it's time for all to lay down their swords and sharp tongues and come together for the sake of OUR community before its way too late.

More Than Half Way There

Last week I weighed myself, to date, I have lost 102 lbs!  That is NOT a typo, I have actually lost more than 100 lbs in 8 months.  I feel Great!  Even better than losing all of that weight, I am officially of of INSULIN!  No More SHOTS!  I am still taking some meds but coming off of insulin was a big deal.

I have learned a lot about myself during this time.  Mostly about the importance that I have always put on food and eating.  I still like to eat but I find that there are still many things that I just can't tolerate any longer.  Then there are things that I loved but just can't have because they make me sick.

I don't eat a lot of bread anymore, actually, I rarely eat any bread like product and outside of a slice of pizza (which used to be my favorite food) that I really miss, I don't really miss any of that high carb, sugar, fat baddy for my body Bread!  I have come to enjoy simpler (and way smaller) things, like fruit cups, protein shakes or greek yogurt (simply 100 is my favorite).

Last week I went out to dinner with Tom, Shannon and Scott and I Had to have a canolli.  Of course after eating a half cup of soup and 3 bites of my dinner there was no way i was going to fit a cannoli in there.  But that's ok.  The next day, I ate half the cream, the following day I ate the other half of cream, Lucky Reilly (my puppy) got the cannoli shell!

These days I no longer feel like I'm depriving myself of anything.  Its true that if I eat too much or something that is not really good for me, it still makes me sick and uncomfortable.  That feeling alone is enough to make sure it doesn't happen often!  However, I pretty much eat whatever I want in reason.  I also find that I'm not really starving all the time like I used to be.  There are times when I get home from work and eat a piece of cheese and that's it for the night.

So in ending, I'm a pretty happy camper!   I'm still going to wait a while before I go and buy lots of new clothes as I would really like to lose another 58 lbs.  But I really cant complain about where I am at at this point.  Through all the trials and agony I had to go through to get this truly life altering surgery, I would do it all again in a second!

Until next time.....

The Fires of Justice

On April 12, 2015 in Baltimore, MD Freddie Gray, a 25 year old African American was arrested for an alleged switchblade and before ever got to be booked he died while in police custody.  What really happened, no one will ever truly know.  However I have seen the video and it is seriously painful to watch.

Freddie Gray will go down in the history books along with Michael Brown, Erik Garner and Trayvon Martin.  But will they ever really find justice?  I would hope that at the very least their family's find peace.

The riots and bedlam that ensued after the death of Freddie reminded me the riots that were seen in the 60's.  And I, for one, have always been in the mind that violence begets violence, that is, until I heard something that made me realize that maybe, just maybe, the only way to make or get effective change is by violence lone?

For days before April 27th the people of Baltimore peacefully protested, however their cause was not brought to the attention of the country until that day, the day of Freddie's funeral when all hell broke loose.  The CVS was burnt to the ground and looted along with a number of police cars and other area businesses and that and only then is when the News outlets rolled into town.

While I do not believe in violence for violence sake and I certainly do not condone the willful hurting of any person, be them civilian or police, I think I understand the reason why this situation deteriorated into what it did.  Later during the week after the national guard was called out and a curfew was put down, I heard a woman on one of our local channels being interviewed by a news outlet.  I do not recall the question the reporter asked the woman but I will never forget the answer, she said to him, "You paid us no attention when we were out here for days peacefully protesting and only came here when the Riots started."  What can I say, she was right, NO ONE CARED until they acted out.

So has this become the way now?  The only way to bring attention to your cause is to act out?  Those words just send a chill up my spine.  We teach our children to not have temper tantrums and yet we tell our adults to peacefully protest something you think is unfair, immoral or bad and then we act as if we don't really care?  If that is the way now, its no wonder that these people acted out the way that they did.  Why would anyone protest peacefully if no one listens?

Tell me, what do you think?  Is it the medias fault for not covering the peaceful and diving into the violence because its more entertaining?  Is this something we can expect from now on whenever someone feels that they have been mistreated?

6 Months Out

I just had my 6 month check up with my surgeon last week.  I am officially 89lbs less then I was when I went in for my barbaric surgery on Sept 2, 2014.  I have 11 more lbs before I hit that wonderful 100lb down mark.

I have not gone cloths shopping yet.  I refuse to do so until I hit that 100 lb mark.  All of my cloths are way way big on me, but I do not care.  Honestly, I'm not even sure what size I am in now.  I suppose I will have to try things on now before I actually do [purchase them, when I do go.

I have to say all of my life I was searching for that "magic pill" to loose weight, until I got the opportunity to get this surgery and even though I did have to go into hock ($4000) to make this happen, I am so, unbelievably happy that I did this for myself.  I think I was at the point were I would have died from complications of diabetes or a stroke.

Today I feel great, I can work in my yard without feeling like I am having a heart attack.  I can go for 2 mile walks without loosing my breath.  I'm not where I want to be just yet but I am getting there.  I have also noticed recently that I'm not always hungry like I used to be all of the time.  Which is good and helps a lot.

Spring has finally sprung in the great northeast and I feel good, like I have not felt in many years.  I am planning on doing many improvements around my house this year because I finally can.

Peace OUT....

Just call me Ms MANNERS!

As a child my parents taught me manners and to respect my elders. Even if I didn't like what they were saying, I would graciously bow out of a conversation, slink away from the situation or just shrug my shoulders and move on.  My parents taught me to say please, thank you and...the biggest pet peeve I have going these days, EXCUSE ME!  We were also taught to not put our elbows on the table, not to eat with our mouths open and not to chew like a cow.  But yet, I see children everywhere these days not only not minding their manners but the parents acting like its ok.  WTF?

Is it my imagination or are people not teaching their children these basic manners any longer?  When has it become, as a society, to be belligerent and rude to everyone around you?

I just want to mention that I was born and raised in NJ and even though us Jersey girls rule the school yard when it comes to going from 0 to Bitch in less than a nano-second, not even I am flat out rude to people (unless of course they ask for it!) and believe me, when they ask for it, they become very sorry very fast!

Short story, I'm in shoprite the other day with the love of my life, Tom, we are always courteous to other shoppers, we say excuse me and keep our cart to the right so people can get around us (imagine that in a food store, right!)  So this cocky little chick around 16 years old is standing with a basket at the end of the lane, we were looking for something so we did not even see her, Tom steps back and she skirts around him, while sucking her teeth and rolling her eyes. I see that and the Jersey rears its ugly head and I said to her, The word we use here is EXCUSE ME! loud enough for every one in the aisle to hear.  Neither her or her oblivious mother said anything to me the nearly 3 times after that they almost ran into me. My point of this story is, What is with people?  If that were me when I was that age, my mother would have dragged me back there and publicly apologized to that person.  Not saying excuse me, please or thank you were a sin that you did not want to commit.

Today on the news this morning, I hear this "new thing" parents are doing with their children, its call "free range parenting" are you freaking kidding me?  You let your kid out of the house to get some fresh air and now you have a name for it? Like they are some kind of chicken you let loose in the yard?  You allow your kid to act anyway they want towards other people and its ok with you that he/she is a little twerp?  Seriously?

Now Its true I do not have any children of my own and far be it for me to tell someone else how to raise their kids but come on, a few manners and some common sense go along way in life.  That is...unless...the parents are assholes too...which is more than likely the problem...

HAPPY SPRING...or not...

So today at 6:36 pm, Spring will officially arrive.  As I sit looking out my office window wondering how the roads are during this late March snow we are having, I have to shake my head in disbelief.

I have to say I am getting just a wee bit sick of this winter this year.  I think that this winter specifically feels longer and colder than winters past.  The news said last night that last winter we had about 63 inches of snow compared to this winter it has only been 23 inches.  But I don't care what the news says, I'm going on what I have been feeling.

Maybe its true what they say that when you get older, you do not like the winter as much as when you were a kid.  I used to love the winter, the snow covered trees, the whole purity of a blanket of new fallen snow making the world look clean and untarnished.  But now I just loath it, the black ice, the shoveling, the waterlogged ground and high heating bills, blah, It just disgusts me.

This year, I want the Spring so badly. Just give me the 60 - 65 degree day, the flowers in bloom, I don't even care about the allergies, I just want this weather to break already.  I long for the day that I can walk in my yard with no shoes on, no giant winter coat or layers and layers of clothing you cant move in.  O please Spring Come to me!

Sometimes I forget....

That stupid people will get nasty to you if you do not see things their way.  They will also manipulate the facts or things said in a conversation to what they think is their point. Ignorant people have an insidious way of getting under my skin.  Most of the time I can ignore them, they are dense, so why even bother trying to talk some sense into them.  But on that rare occasion, when I just can not take the hypocrisy, self promotion and total disregard for anyone or anything around them, I loose it. Hey, Im human after all, and really how much ignorance can one person take?

I should know that I should never actually write something down, send a letter or IM pointing out that they are losers or pieces of shit or how obtuse and hypocritical they actually are.  But unfortunately I dont always listen to my own advice, and I know better, yet something just takes hold of me and does crazy things.  Maybe at the point when even cold hard facts make them even dumber, its just more than I can believe and delirium takes hold of me.

So how do you deal with a moronic asshole anyway?  Thats not easy, I would have to say the best most beneficial way is to just completely ignore them.  However sometimes thats not that easy, especially on social networking sites when every time they post something more unintelligent or hypocritical than the last, they tag you, dragging you back into their dumb little self absorbed world.

In the end, I know I am wiser than they are and in truth, I am a better person than they for the simple reason that I want the truth, facts, knowledge and understanding rather then just take someones word for it or rely on a "feeling" because "one day a long time ago something bad happened".  For whatever reason they just don't have the capacity to see the whole big picture and are usually afraid of what they do not fully understand on their own.

So my advice is to just steer clear of Stupid People, you will usually gain nothing from conversations with them and only end up making yourself look like the bad guy no matter how dimwitted and hypocritical some people are.

Snow Day

So it was supposed to be the storm of the century, 24" or more of snow, traveling bans, alternate side of the street parking suspended, stores running out of bread, milk, eggs and toilet paper, and then it bared down on us over night.

I checked the employee website in the morning before i even looked outside, in giant letters it read...CLOSED...yippee SNOW Day!

By the time I looked outside, I have to say I was a bit disappointed.  We had gotten about 4" if that of snow over night.  the street outside my house was clear and another plow was coming down the road just for good measure.

I made some coffee and settled in to check out the morning news.  By 7:30 am they had lifted the travel ban and most of the silly other things they do when we actually get 24" of snow.  I checked the employee site again, still no work.  Im pretty sure I could have made it if I had tried.

So I figured that I would do a little work from home, right after I clean my car off.  Needless to say, work didn't go that far its actually harder to work from home than one would think.  Im done now, thats my story, now Im going to take a nap...

Happy Snow Day All
